Fox Point Update: October 2026 Edition

  • On September 30, 2026

President’s Letter

By Andrew Schwarz | Email

This year is flying by; I can’t believe October is upon us!  It’s a lovely month in the neighborhood with lots to look forward to.

As exciting as the summer is, the colder seasons can be just as enjoyable around Fox Point.  Many neighbors are looking forward to the Golf Outing, Halloween festivities, fall foliage, snowfall (hopefully!), Progressive Dinner, Santa’s visit, and the Card Party.  Credit and gratitude to all the Board Members and Committees who help bring these amazing events to life.

Speaking of, we have formally kicked off our Nominations Process for next year’s HOA Board elections.  We are seeking 3 new Board Members (one from the South Side) to cover the upcoming vacancies across our Safety, Civic, and Common Grounds positions beginning in January 2027.  Please consider contributing a few hours per month to help make Fox Point all that it is.  If you are interested or know anyone who might be, please contact this year’s Nominating Committee:  Greg Salter, Lisa Brooks, Jason Ehlert, Kyle Powal, Abe Ryder, or myself.

Our next HOA Board meeting is scheduled for Monday, September 19 2026 at 7pm at the Village Church.  See you there!

Treasurer Report

As we enter the fourth quarter, I’ll be working with the Board and the finance committee to develop the HOA 2027 budget. We’ll keep the community informed as we move through the process.

Fall is in the air!  I personally cannot wait for October and Halloween!  One of our favorite activities is biking around the neighborhood checking out all the spooky decorations.  We had the best weather for Camp Out last month, thank you to all our neighborhood volunteers and I’d like to specifically call out Joe Minor for taking the lead on planning this fantastic Fox Point Tradition and Sofia Johnson for face painting.  And another huge thank you to Fox Point’s favorite band: Dan Pohl, Anthony Radek and Jordan Linville.

Are you cleaning out your kids’ rooms? Declutter and also help the kids at Sunny Hill Elementary by donating your gently-used, preschool to elementary level books to the Sunny Hill Little Free Library.  We are most in need of large picture books and early, simple chapter books for beginning readers like the “Step Into Reading” series. Many children at Sunny Hill don’t have access to books at home. Your donations foster a love of reading and can make a real difference in their lives.

Please drop books off at 1510 Lake Shore Drive S. or message Annmarie at 312.259.9239 if you’d like them picked up. Your help is deeply appreciated!

The neighborhood is starting to look spooky with all the decorations! The village Trick-or-Treating hours are on Saturday, October 31st from 3pm – 7pm. If you plan to pass out candy, please have your porch light on as a signal to trick-or-treaters. If you do not plan to participate, you can keep your porch light off. And remember, with all the families and kids out and about – please be extremely careful when driving.

Common Grounds Report

By Jason Ehlert | Email

We have hired our landscaping firm to clean up the area near the new fence on the north side of Lake Cook Rd, east of Valley.  Crews will be preparing this area to be regraded and seeded with grass to match the surrounding area.  Homeowners with fencing should be sure to keep all plants and shrubs at least 3 feet away from the fence.  Thank you.

Safety and Welfare Report

By Greg Salter | Email

Illinois passed a new law regarding use of electric scooters, electric bikes, electric motorcycles, and other electric vehicles. A full summary of the new law can be found HERE.

The key provisions include the following:

  • You must be at least 15-years-old to operate an e-bike with motor assist up to 20 mph, and 16-years-old to operate an e-bike with pedal assist up to 28 mph.
  • You must be at least 16-years-old to operate an e-scooter.
  • You must have a valid driver’s license to operate an e-motorcycle or an e-bike that can travel over 28 mph. These vehicles also require valid title, registration and insurance.
  • The vehicles are all prohibited on sidewalks, regardless of age and registration.
  • Additional note: these vehicles continue to be prohibited on Fox Point common grounds including the driveway through the boat landing, the pool parking lot, and the sidewalks by the pool, tennis courts and playground.

With the new legislation, the Village of Barrington continues to encourage residents to call 911 if you see reckless or dangerous operation of any e-mobility device so the police department can address the situation immediately.

As always, I want to extend a sincere thank you to everyone for your continued dedication to our community’s safety. The way neighbors constantly look out for each other is what keeps our streets and common area.

Lake Report

By Steve Kipferl | Email

As the weather cools down, please remember to plan to store your boats for the winter. If you have a boat on the rack, please make sure it is in the correct spot and locked away. Please make sure there is no residual water left in the boats on the rack, since freeze damage may occur in the fall and the winter.

The aerators are going to be taken in shortly and stored for the winter. Treatment will continue through October for the water quality. On Mondays you may continue to see our vendor out on the water spraying and or testing the water.

It was a rough middle summer period given the extremely hot and dry 2 months we had, without inflow or outflow of the lake. As fall picks up we should notice an increase in the quality of the water. We are discussing next year’s plans for vegetation management with the vendors as well.

We are seeing many smaller baitfish and fingerlings along the shores which is a fantastic sign for fishing. As the water cools, fishing should continue to pick up as well.

For those interested, please jump on the lake committee meeting, listed below. All are encouraged to join to discuss any current or future lake projects.

Pool Report

By Adam Clementi | Email

As we wrap up another pool season, I’d like to thank all of our residents and pool guards for helping make it a great one!

This year, we made some significant upgrades to the pool’s machine room, and those improvements paid off. After the first few weeks, we enjoyed consistently crystal clear and warm water throughout the remainder of the season. Thank you to everyone who helped make that possible and to our residents for enjoying the pool and helping us maintain a great community amenity.

We’re already looking ahead to next season. During the off-season, we’ll be working on preventative maintenance for the pool mechanical systems, along with paint touch-ups and other improvements to keep the pool in great shape for 2027.

The off-season is also a great time to think ahead. If you have any proactive suggestions or ideas for improving the pool, please send them to pool@foxpoint.org. We’d love to hear your thoughts as we begin planning for next year.

Thanks again to everyone for a wonderful season, and we look forward to seeing you all poolside in 2027!

Tennis Report

By Jordan Linville | Email

Congratulations to Cheryl Laurence & Jake Felts, winners of the 2026 Fox Point Pickleball Tournament!  It was a hard-fought, fun-to-watch, three-set battle against Kathy Krucek & Howie Bushnell with over twenty spectators cheering. Thanks to all who came out to watch some very entertaining pickleball.

The nets will be up until late October/early November. Enjoy the last few weeks of pickleball and tennis.
