It’s been wonderful to see so much summer fun across the neighborhood.

Hard to believe, but the fact that summer is winding down has me reflecting on our great community events this summer.  The Fox Point Dolphins have wrapped up another successful year, we recently held our fishing derby, the second annual Venetian Night, and tennis/pickle programming has been in full “swing”.  The Board is also making great progress on directories and the important Seawall project at the Boat Landings.  See below for important details!

Thank you to our Board members, Committee members, and resident volunteers for their contributions in making Fox Point the special place that it is.

Social Report

Summer Movie Night has been rescheduled!

We had to reschedule our movie night last month due to the wildfire smoke!  Please join us on Friday, August 7th, at the tennis courts for a showing of The Parent Trap.  We will have some candy and snacks available for purchase.  Sunset is at 8:01pm on the 7th, so expect the movie to begin around 8:15pm.  The courts will open at 8pm so you can set up your spot.

• When: Friday, August 7th at 8:15pm
• We will have snacks for sale

Please keep in mind:

To maintain the integrity of our tennis courts, chairs must be kept on blankets! Also, adult supervision and attendance is required.  BYOB and clean-up of your own items is expected. 

Venetian Night

We had such a great turn out at Venetian Night! Thank you to all who came out for a great night by the lake and huge thank you to Jordan Linville and Dan Pohl for putting on a fantastic show for us.

Congratulations to Debbie Kreischer for winning the best decorated boat contest with her Swedish Viking entry!

We are in the midst of planning the Campout and the Golf Outing! Please stay tuned for more details and put these dates on your calendar:

• Campout is scheduled for Saturday, 9/12
• Golf Outing is scheduled for Saturday, 10/24 at Palatine Hills. It will be a shotgun scramble format again, start getting your teams together!
• Progressive dinner will be sometime January 2027
• Card Party is scheduled for Friday, March 5th 2027

Civics Report

Congratulations to our Social Chair, Kate Feit, for a 2nd place finish in the Race to Mackinac!

Here are the details from Kate: They started Saturday at 11am and finished on Monday around 7pm – 56 hours! Sailed a Tartan 10 (33 ft boat) named Meat. Seven crew on board – who have been sailing together since 2013! This was Kate’s 7th race to Mackinac – the first one being in 2011!

They had great weather with their fastest speed at 12.7 kts – pretty fast for their boat!  The huge storm that rolled through Sunday night missed them to the north with about two hours of an incredible lightning storm ahead.  Bright orange bolts of lightning stroking across the sky and down to the lake.  Needless to say, we are all very glad the storm stayed north!  Overall, very fun sailing and finishing with some daylight and being able to have dinner on the island was a treat!

Well done Kate and crew!

Architecture Report

On July 13, members of the Board and the civil engineer leading the design of the Boat Dock project met with interested neighbors to present the latest plans for the shoreline erosion control project and answer questions and address concerns. The meeting was well received with very positive feedback.

Meeting Summary

• Install steel sheet piles along the shoreline to a sufficient depth to stabilize the shoreline.
• Raise the Boat Dock area 12”-18” (approximately 6 inches or more above the flood elevation) to help keep the area dry.
• Relocate soil from Lot C farther west to create a compensatory storage area, preserving as much of the existing open space while improving drainage for the backyards bordering Lot C
• Preserve the existing trees while maximizing the fill area around them.
• Reseed the elevated areas with grass.
• Install soft landscaping along the shoreline in a later phase.
• NOTE: The asphalt drive parallel to the shoreline will be removed in order to raise the elevation. Repaving this section of asphalt will be determined at a future time, and after the new land has settled, and potentially in conjunction with other soft- and hard-scape improvements.

Additional Options (Subject to Project Budget)

• Concrete block boat ramp to increase usability and accommodate movements.
• Additional soil relocation to create a deeper and wider compensatory storage area in Lot C.
• Repaving of driveway in front of the Boat Rack with a hammerhead turnaround at the end (given removal of section as noted above).

Regarding Architectural Review, please remember that all applications are reviewed and voted on by the full Fox Point Board—not solely by the Architecture Chair. To allow sufficient time for every Board member to review your submission before the monthly meeting, please submit your completed application, including all required neighbor signatures, by the end of the prior month (e.g., If you need your project to be approved in August, submit by the end of July).

Tennis Report

Our summer pickleball tournament is going strong! Thank you to all players and we will publicize the date and time of the championship via the tennis/pickleball newsletter (signup below).

Kids tennis classes have wrapped up. It was a hot June but the kids did great!!

Friendly reminder to please keep your kids off the tennis courts. There have been multiple incidences with kids on courts when residents want to play as well as food and wrappers left on the court.
