President’s Letter

“Collective obligation” is the modern interpretation of the word “community”, an idea embodied by Fox Point residents through and through.

Fox Point takes pride in being a community-run association. Aside from professional accounting, we do not hire-out management of our HOA – the Board serves as general contractors to oversee the labor and specialists addressing the ever-present needs of our neighborhood. This not only keeps costs low but allows for upkeep that best meets the needs and preference of our residents.

Two great examples of our neighbors giving back are our Board members and life guards. Many of our pool guard staff are Fox Point residents and all work so hard to keep our pool functioning and safe.  Please see the Pool section for important information and reminders on this front.

And as always, I am proud of the work my fellow Board members and committees contribute behind the scenes – on top of already very busy personal lives.

This 4th of July, America’s 250th, I am grateful for the efforts of many to bring our community together and make it a great place for our family, friends, and future.

4th of July Pool Party

Happy almost 4th of July!  To celebrate we’re firing up a pool party! Join us for a day of splashing and serious fun! 

• Where: FP Pool
• When: Saturday, July 4th from 1-4pm
• Cost: Free – but please sign up to donate items or time!

You can expect games, with PRIZES, popsicles, and good old-fashioned fun.  In order to make the day a huge success we are asking for some volunteers and donations.  Bring yourself, your food and drinks, and your patriotic attitude! Can’t wait to celebrate red, white, and blue along with you!

Summer Movie Night

Please join us on Friday, July 17th, at the tennis courts for a showing of The Parent Trap.  We will have some candy and snacks available for purchase.  Sunset is at 8:25pm on the 17th, so expect the movie to begin around 8:30pm.  The courts will open at 8pm so you can set up your spot.

Please keep in mind:

To maintain the integrity of our tennis courts, chairs must be kept on blankets! Also, adult supervision and attendance is required.  BYOB and clean up of your own items is expected. 

Fox Point Venetian Night & Fishing Derby

Venetian Night was such a hit last year we are bringing it back and making it bigger by including the fishing derby as well this year!  Please join us for a magical evening on the lake.

If you would like to participate in the boat parade, please sign up below and we will be in touch regarding logistics.  A prize will be awarded for best decorated boat as well as the usual fishing derby prizes! Please also indicate in the sign-up link if you have a boat you are willing to loan out to a neighbor.

Civics Report

Summer is in full swing with lots of events coming up around town! Be sure to visit the Lion’s Club Brat tent open from July 1st – 4th. Here is a calendar of the entertainment and hours. Note that Jim Cornelison of Blackhawks fame will be singing the National Anthem after the parade!

Thursday Nights Out combines classic cars, local vendors, food, drinks and music. Hop into your little deuce coupe and join the fun!

For those who enjoy picnics and music in the park, take in a free concert at the Citizens’ Park amphitheater on Wednesday nights.  Please see here for the schedule.

Finally, on Saturday, July 25 is the 5th Annual Porchfest. Come hear various bands and performers play from the porches of homes in downtown Barrington. Here is a map and list of artists.

Architecture Report

Boat dock engineering is making good progress. The boat landing area will be filled above the floodplain to keep it elevated, dry, and functional. Sheet piles (steel interlocking retaining walls drilled into the soil) are included in the plan as a long-term shoreline erosion control solution. They will be dressed with natural landscaping during a future phase.

The cost of the sheet piles will be competitively bid with three contractors in late summer, and we are still hoping to complete the project this fall.

If you are planning any exterior alteration work, please submit your plans, drawings, and neighbor signatures by the end of the month so they can be adequately reviewed in time for the following month’s Board meeting.

Safety and Welfare Report

The 4th of July in Barrington is always a special time of year, and I hope everyone gets the chance to get out and enjoy the Village parade and the Barrington fireworks! As we celebrate, please remember that consumer fireworks are illegal in Illinois. For the safety of our neighborhood, and the peace of mind of our local pets, please leave the displays to the professionals and skip the at-home fireworks this year.

We all love seeing the neighborhood dogs out and about enjoying the summer weather! As a quick reminder, the Village of Barrington has a strict, village-wide leash law: dogs must be securely leashed at all times when they are outside of your home, unless they are safely contained within an electric fence on your own property.

Because this law applies everywhere, it includes all of our shared Fox Point common grounds such as the boat landings and the areas around the pool, playground, and tennis courts. We’ve received a few recent complaints about loose dogs in these areas, so keeping your dogs leashed ensures that every neighbor (and every pet) can comfortably and safely enjoy our beautiful neighborhood spaces.

Lake Report

The annual fishing derby will occur on July 25th, from 8am to 4pm. There will be 2 classes of prizes. One prize for biggest carp, and one prize for longest bass by length.

If you wish to participate in the bass portion, please stop by after 8am, grab an official measuring tape from the registration host located at the boat docks that day. Bass will be catch and release, and prizes will be awarded by photos at weight in. Participants are instructed to photograph the bass next to their derby measuring tape, then release the bass. Photos will be reviewed at noon before prizes are awarded.

We need several volunteers who are interested to help coordinate events, assist in weigh ins, prize duty, and registration. If you would like to volunteer a few hours of time to help with a great event please reach out to lake@foxpoint.org. Teen volunteers welcome as well.

We will also be hosting our second annual Venetian Evening on Saturday, July 25^th. A prize will be awarded for best decorated boat!

Reminder on rules at the boat rack:

• All boats are to remain locked when on the rack.
• The rack consists of private boats. Please tell your children or teens to request permission before using a neighbor’s boat.
• When finished with your boats, please return them to the rack in the appropriate spot. Do not leave your boat on the shore. Boats left on the shore will be moved to the end of the rack or lost. Boats moved multiple times by the committee are subject to loss of boat rack spot without refund.

Lake health is continuing to improve year after year. Regular microalgae blooms are present and will continue through the summer. These are a part of every lake’s cycle. Chemical treatments are ongoing weekly.

Aeration repairs are underway on the main lake and the fountain will be installed in the small pond this month. 

Fishing has been excellent with anglers landing striped bass, northern pike, largemouth bass, panfish of all varieties, channel catfish and carp.

Pool Report

We have had a great start to the pool season, and I want to first thank everyone for the positive energy and excitement around a successful opening. Unfortunately, the heater issues during what has been an unusually cold June have put a damper on some of the fun. The good news is after an exhaustive search for a capable (and available) vendor, the Board approved the purchase of a replacement heater, and it was installed on June 26th!
    > We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding while we worked through this unexpected challenge.

As I continue learning the full scope of our pool operations, I want to thank the community for your patience as well. One of my goals as Pool Chairperson is to better understand the full capabilities of our current systems and vendors and ensure we have the right partners in place to support the pool. This includes strengthening relationships with our current providers and making changes when needed to ensure we are receiving the level of service our community deserves.

Next, an important reminder to please be kind and patient with our amazing guard staff. Our guards are here every day to support our members and keep our pool a safe and enjoyable place for everyone. They arrive before opening and stay after closing to complete the many behind-the-scenes tasks that help keep things running smoothly.

Have you ever arrived to find the garbage cans overflowing? Have you ever needed toilet paper or paper towels and they were there when you needed them? While many of us are enjoying a relaxing Sunday morning at home, who is at the pool completing in-service training to make sure our team is prepared to keep us safe? When you or your child needs an ice pack, who is there to help?

Please take a moment to thank them and let them know how much their work is appreciated. They do far more than simply watch the pool.

If there is ever an issue, concern, or complaint, please take a moment to gather your thoughts and reach out to me directly. I welcome the feedback and want to make sure concerns are addressed appropriately and constructively.

Tennis Report

2026 Fox Point Pickleball Tournament…signup today! If you have a partner, great. If you don’t, great. If you need a paddle – I have extras. There is no reason not to play! Click here to sign up for the summer tournament. Sign-ups close at 11:59pm on Monday, July 6th.

Kids tennis is going strong for a few more weeks.  The Wednesday classes, unfortunately, had two rainouts.  We will be in touch with make-ups for those classes.

In other news, we’ve been offering adult pickleball classes through the Team Reach app. Download it to see when classes are or coordinate open play in both tennis and pickleball.

Finally, a few PSAs (public service announcements):

• Our policy is not to have children, dogs or any paddle/racquet sport on the courts. If there’s no one playing and kids want to bounce a ball around, I’m personally not going to say anything. But please make sure kids pick up their trash – especially candy wrappers.
• I am aware of the lack of a trash can. Groot has not picked up the trash can sitting there for a month, and I’ve called twice. I’ll figure out a way to get that emptied and back to the courts.
