Fox Point Update: August 2024 Edition

President’s Letter

As our summer is coming to an end, (I know that sounds crazy but school starts on 8/19, yikes!) our board continues to be busily working on keeping our neighborhood running smoothly.
Additionally, we have been addressing neighbor suggestions and exploring potential future enhancements to the Fox Point “campus”. Through the work being done on a new playground several folks have shown interest in ways to make the pool, tennis, and playground campus more usable and inviting for Fox Point families of all ages. One item of discussion has been the possibility of adding a small basketball or multi-sport play area to part of the space between the parking lot and tennis courts. The potential vision is a paved surface with a basketball hoop, painted basketball lines, painted four square lines, and potentially other uses. We see this as an enhancement for all ages that could be used year-round. As the Board continues to look at the design and pricing of adding this feature to our community, we welcome your contribution and feedback regarding the potential project.

Congratulations to the Fox Point Dolphins swim team who placed third at the North Shore Conference Team Championship and first in the girls 6 and under category in the Age Group Championship! We are extremely proud of our neighborhood swimmers. This year we had over 100 swimmers, ages 5 to 14 participate in the Dolphins, committing to daily practice and 5 conference meets. Thank you to our swim coaches for all of the encouragement and confidence building of our swimmers.
Furthermore, please look for the 2024 Fox Point Directory at the pool house in the next week. Please stop by during regular pool hours and pick up one copy for your household. Please reach out to me at secretary@foxpoint.org if you have any questions or need to update your contact information for 2025.

Hello Fox Point! Before diving into our event updates, I would like to address some comments of disappointment regarding the lack of pool games for the Fourth of July holiday.
Running our neighborhood’s social events is not a one-person job. In order for the continuation of the events we have come to expect, we need volunteers to take part in committees responsible for planning and executing each event. Unfortunately, we did not have anyone volunteer to take on the pool games this year and therefore, they were not run.
If there is an event or activity you are passionate about, I highly encourage you to take part in the planning committee. With that, we are still looking for volunteers for the 2024 Santa Visits. Committee registration for 2025 events go live towards the end of the year.

Little Free Libraries in Fox Point! I want to give a shout-out to the Tabak and Lowe families for hosting Little Free Libraries in our neighborhood. Both locations offer books for all ages, children and adults. Feel free to take a book – you do not need to return it or replace it with another.
Mandy and Nathan Lowe and their daughters, Marley, Violet, and Minnie, opened their little library at the corner of Lake Shore Drive North and The Point in 2022. The latest addition is hosted by Kathy and Dave Tabak at 391 North Valley Court. (It is set back a little but look for the sign.) During your next walk or drive around the lake; stop, look, and take a book! Thank you to both families for their generous community spirit!

Please be sure to consult our website to determine whether your outdoor project requires Board approval. Most permanent alterations do!
The project to install the permanent shoreline at the Boat Landings area remains in progress with a target installation this year, though timing is dependent on the various regulatory bodies involved and their respective requirements/timing. Please reach out with questions!

As many of you have heard, a number of Fox Point and Barrington Meadows residents had cars burglarized in their driveways early in the morning of Friday, July 26th. Please keep the following tips in mind for continuing to protect your home and property:
- If you see something, say something. The Barrington Police were called and able to chase off the perpetrators on the morning of the 26th.
- Keep your vehicles locked on your driveway. Most burglars will target the “easy” option.
- Keep the door between your garage and your house locked, particularly if you have a vehicle with a garage door opener parked on the driveway.
- Lighting helps fend off would-be-criminals. This includes the gas/electric lamp that all Fox Point houses have in the front yard, as well as lights on the outside of your home. Lights with motion sensors can be particularly useful if you do not want certain lights on all night.
- Keep all entry doors and windows to the house locked. Again, typically burglars are looking for an easy option and not looking to break through locks.

It is time for an FP Pickleball tournament!!
ALL skill levels are welcome. Once you receive your match pairing, you can play at any time conducive to both teams. We will publicize the date/time of the semifinals and finals in case people want to watch.
Note: your partner does not have to be your spouse
Youth tennis lessons have concluded for the summer! Great job to all the kids that persevered through some hot lesson days and thank you to the Barrington Area Tennis Association for another round of lessons.
A few court reminders:
- There is currently no reservation system for the tennis and pickleball courts. Please limit play to one hour if others are waiting.
- No bicycles, scooters, roller blades, skateboards, etc. are allowed on the courts.

The July Fishing Derby was a success with many big bass caught and a few carp removed. Congratulations to our Bass and Carp Derby Champions who each won a rod and reel setup! Thanks to all who came out for fishing fun!
Thank you to all who have registered for the boat rack this year. Boats not matched to owners will be removed from the rack during August. That would be your last chance to claim your boat and register before it is thrown out.
Lake testing results are in and phosphorous levels continue to decrease in the lake. Both weekly and monthly water treatment schedules are ongoing in the lake. Lake health has continued to remain excellent this year with more new submerged vegetation returning to the lake!
Lake committee meetings are the second Monday of the month at 8pm. Please join us. All are welcome!! Thanks to those attending! We are getting a solid conversation going.
