Fox Point Update: July 2025 Edition

  • On June 30, 2025

President’s Letter

By Jeana Garms | Email

Hello Fox Point! Summer is in full swing and I hope you all have been keeping cool in these hot temperatures. With the Fourth of July holiday approaching there is a lot going on both within our neighborhood and the Barrington community at large. I hope you and your families get to take advantage of all there is to offer.

A special thank you to our Civics chair Lisa Brooks, Social chair Kate Feit, and all those that helped organize our recent neighborhood garage sale. With 19 homes participating it was great to see this event back and look forward to even more homes taking advantage next year.

With summer officially here, there are many outdoor concerts to enjoy in our area! Starting July 2, the Elgin Symphony Orchestra will be performing a free Patriotic Brass Celebration at Citizens Park at 6:30.

On Wednesdays in July and August, pack a picnic or just bring your chairs, for more free outdoor concerts at Citizens Park. Whether your choice of music is rock n roll, rhythm and blues, or radio tunes, there is a concert for you.  See here for the schedule and times.

On Thursday Nights Out, downtown Barrington is the place to be! The Barrington Farmer’s market offers music from 4:00 – 6:00 followed by various artists from 7:00 – 8:00. See here for more information. Be sure to take advantage of these free concerts and enjoy the sounds of summer!

We took steps over the last month to continue moving forward on our seawall project.

In mid June, the Board met with the Village of Barrington to understand the current status of our permits to install the steel seawall at our Boat Landing areas on Lake Shore Drive North.  The Village is supportive of our efforts and shares our vision to see the area stabilized and beautified, recognizing that it is an important common space for our neighborhood as it serves as the gateway to the lake for the majority of FP residents who live off the lake.

Our prevailing goals remain to both stabilize the shoreline and reduce erosion, plus raise the land in the area to create a dry space to recreate near the lake.  Given that most of the area sits in the floodplain, there are a number of complexities related to stormwater management that we will continue to address as our final plans come together.  (Special thanks to Jeff Dahnke for his thought-leadership here.)

A final positive takeaway from the meeting with the Village was the possibility that our work here may actually qualify for grant money via Lake County.  The Board may choose to invest nominal, incremental time and funds during planning if it means that a substantial portion of shoreline restoration costs could be covered by grant money.  This is my new short-term focus with respect to this project.  Don’t hesitate to reach out with questions.

  • When: Saturday, July 19th – Boat Parade begins at 4pm
  • Cost: Free

The annual fishing derby will occur on July 19th, from 8am to 12pm. There will be 2 classes of prizes. One prize for biggest carp, and one prize for longest bass by length.

If you wish to participate in the bass portion, please stop by after 8am, grab an official measuring tape from the registration host located at the boat docks that day. Bass will be catch and release, and prizes will be awarded by photos at weight in. Participants are instructed to photograph the bass next to their derby measuring tape, then release the bass. Photos will be reviewed at noon before prizes are awarded.

We need several volunteers who are interested to help coordinate events, assist in weigh ins, prize duty, and registration. If you would like to volunteer a few hours of time to help with a great event please reach out to lake@foxpoint.org. Teen volunteers welcome as well.

If you still need to register your boat on the boat rack, contact the lake chair via email below. We will be removing boats that have not been accounted for off the rack. Owners who wish to stay on the rack please reach out to lake@foxpoint.org if you have not done so already. Thanks to those who have responded. I have you on the list. We are still waiting on quite a few responses. Boats that have not been accounted for, will be removed from the rack and owners will have until JULY 1 to dispose of the boats or contact lake@foxpoint.org to register. Remaining unregistered boats after the July 1 are going to be disposed section by section. Payment system is not yet active.  Watch for updates in payment in the next newsletter.

Reminder on rules at the boat rack:

  • All boats are to remain locked when on the rack.
  • The rack consists of private boats. Please tell your children or teens to request permission before using a neighbor’s boat.
  • When finished with your boats, please return them to the rack. Do not leave your boat on the shore. Boats left on the shore will be moved to the end of the rack. Boats moved multiple times by the committee are subject to loss of boat rack spot without refund.

Lake health is excellent. The lake is a clean as it has been in the last 15-20 years. Regular microalgae blooms are present and will continue through the summer. These are a part of every lake’s cycle. Chemical treatments are ongoing weekly.

Fishing has been excellent with anglers landing striped bass, northern pike, largemouth bass, panfish of all varieties, channel catfish and carp.

If you would like to join the lake committee, please contact the lake chair at the email listed above. If you are interested in participating in the committee meetings, please join the google meet below. All are welcome! Lake committee meetings are on the 2nd Monday of the month at 8pm via google meet.

Go to https://foxpoint.getomnify.com to add family members to your profile.  From there you will be able to:

  • Capture your check-in at the Front Desk
  • Reserve an awning – $25 rental fee. Here’s a MAP of the awning locations
  • Note – guest fees are recorded at check-in and are not purchased in advance
