Fox Point is alive with activity and neighbors are out and about as we enjoy this wonderful time of year. Hopefully, you had an opportunity to experience the outstanding Summer Kick-Off Barbecue this Memorial Day weekend. Families from throughout the neighborhood were able to gather and socialize while enjoying what has become one of our favorite annual events.
The Fox Point Barbecue may merely have been the tip of the iceberg as we look to the variety of social and community building events scheduled for the rest of the summer. The Fox Point Board and their respective committees are working hard to make this a summer to remember.
In addition to the usual annual events such as the Fishing Derby (June 3rd) and 4th of July Pool Games, we will be offering several new events including Tennis & Tinis Round Robin Tournament (June 24th), Food Truck Fridays (June 9th & July 28th), and Breakfast at Wimbledon (July 16th).
These are all great events and terrific opportunities to continue to build relationships with your friends and neighbors. As you attend any of these upcoming events, please accept a personal challenge from me. Instead of gravitating to your usual circle of friends, seek out someone you have yet to meet and introduce yourself. You may be a welcoming smile to one of our newest neighbors.
The Fox Point Board met on May 15th to continue our work to make Fox Point an even better place to live. We approved the painting of the playground equipment and the purchase of a couple new picnic tables. We also had a request from the Barrington Water Polo Team to rent our pool for a few hours a week while the High School pool is being renovated. In the spirit of building community with our surrounding village and recognizing that numerous Fox Pointers play on this team, we approved the request. This request will not impose upon our regular scheduled pool hours our Fox Point residents. Please join us at our next Fox Point Board meeting on June 19th at 7:00 pm at Village Church.
Let’s work together to ensure that our community continues to be an outstanding place to grow families; to build relationships, and to simply experience the blessings of life. Please contact me if I can be of service to you.
Pool

The Pool is open! We anticipate a great opening weekend and feedback on the new pool furniture. If you didn’t get a chance to hit the water, we hope to see you soon!
The pool will certainly see its share of activity this summer with both the Barrington Swim Club and Barrington Water Polo team renting out pool time. The Board approved usage by both of these groups acting in a neighborly fashion to support our local organizations.
In addition to the competitive team’s usage of the pool, we hope to see the younger generation take advantage of the swim team coaches availability for swim lessons. We have posted their contact information on Nextdoor, and hopefully, by now, those interested have had a chance to connect.
With all of the planned activity, it will certainly be a busy season at the pool. Please find the general pool hours https://foxpointorg.wpengine.com/fox-point-pool/
We strive to make the pool experience a pleasant one for all ages and certainly welcome suggestions/comments to help us improve one of the greatest assets of the neighborhood. Please feel free to send any feedback my way!

Common Grounds

Things are really starting to shape up in the public areas of Fox Point as plants start to bloom!
Last fall we planted hundreds of new bulbs at the entrances, at the four boat dock garden beds as well as in a few spots at the front of the pool. It was amazing to see all the bulbs pop up and turn into incredible flowers. My hope is that we can continue to plant bulbs each fall in different areas of the neighborhood as they surely provide a nice welcome as we transition into spring each year.
The landscapers did a wonderful job of working through the spring clean- up which included seed repair throughout many of the common areas of the neighborhood, mulch around all of the garden beds and additional mulch in the playground area. In the coming weeks, we will be again working with the landscape team to address any warranty issues from the two recent large landscape projects located at the pool/tennis court complex and at both Valley Road entrances. I have also budgeted some minor dollars to help augment a couple of the areas that did not turn out as planned during the initial installations. As we move into June we will also be planting the summer annuals at each entrance as well as filling the two large flower pots at the entrance to the pool house.
You may have noticed that the two very old, dented, rusted and “have seen better days” picnic tables that were located at the boat docks were donated to one of the local Thursday night recycling trucks. We are purchasing two new 8’ picnic tables which we will strategically place between the pool, tennis courts and playground areas. At the same time, we will be relocating the two square picnic table units currently at that location to the boat dock area as replacements for the two old units.
We still have some tree trimming projects on the horizon as well as the replacement of the two smaller light posts and fixtures that welcome everyone to the boat dock at the driveway entrances. We hope to have progress on both of these fronts later in the summer.
If you have youngsters in the neighborhood you may have also noticed that we have or will be painting the playground equipment as part of the long-term maintenance program for this capital asset. I am hopeful the project will have been completed by the time this newsletter is published if spring rain stops. In the past few years, we have replaced the swing seats as well as the tire on that set. The new paint will keep this asset in great shape for the foreseeable future.
We are still working on repairing the Valley Road entrance wall at the NE corner as a result of a tree falling on it a few months back. Before spending that money, we are taking a closer look at the entire brick wall up there as it is in need of some serious TLC. It appears that we did do some tuck pointing on those walls a number of years back but they are showing some fairly serious imperfections that are causing us to look at a more long-term game plan for those walls. My guess is we will have to do some serious tuck pointing, brick replacement and sealing in the next year or two, to maintain and extend the useful life of the front entrance brick walls. As we get feedback and costs from multiple mason companies we will have a better idea as to a short-term game plan.
If you see anything in Fox Point that the landscapers have not addressed, please call or email me.
