Fox Point Update: March 2024 Edition

President’s Letter

As I write this article, I’m still smiling at all the fun I, and many others, had at the FP Card Party at Makray Golf Course on February 23rd. What a night! There was great energy, some shenanigans, and a few card sharks that made the evening complete! I particularly enjoyed meeting so many of my neighbors and hearing how they love living in Fox Point. It was just the medicine I needed in the middle of this winter season!
Building on that theme is the request to participate in our neighborhood and all the activities it has to offer. It is those connections around FUN that make the neighborhood the envy of 60010. We know how to have fun and still get things done! I know there is room for more volunteers in 2024, and I hope this quick note will remind you to get involved and enjoy what makes our neighborhood special…the people!
Have a great month, enjoy some college basketball (go Kansas), and get ready for the Easter Egg Hunt and a few other fun things being planned as we go into March and all its Madness!!!!

So far it looks like Punxsutawney Phil was correct with his prediction. Let’s hope these spring-like temperatures continue! March is a great time to start planning your garden and landscaping. The Barrington Public Works Department is starting to put together a list of locations for planting trees on Village parkways and rights of way. Please see the Architecture Report for more information. And the Barrington library still has a nice selection of wildflower, annual, and vegetable seeds.
Barrington 220: This March, Barrington 220 is holding four community engagement meetings to gain stakeholder feedback about a menu of projects to be included in a potential referendum question on the November 2024 election ballot. These meetings are open to the public. Each meeting will feature a presentation, along with an opportunity for stakeholders to ask questions. Please note that each meeting will have the same agenda.
March 6th: 6 pm-7 pm at Prairie Campus Middle School
March 9th: 10 am-11 am at Barrington High School
March 11th: 6 pm-7 pm at Arnett C. Lines Elementary School

Common Grounds
By Jason Elhert | Email
This week, I spent time with our landscaping vendor walking all the common grounds throughout Fox Point, and we were able to identify some attention areas. My focus this year is to enhance the landscaping in some spots around the pool grounds and a few of the rougher cul-de-sacs. We will start by removing dead items in the spring, followed by replanting turf and new plants in the fall.
Soon, I’ll be ramping up the planning phase for the Lake Cook Road fence replacement. This will be an awesome opportunity to enhance the first impression of our neighborhood. It will also give neighbors along Lake Cook essentially a free new fence. Those homeowners will receive communication from me over the next few months about the required steps to prepare for this installment next year.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns in regard to common grounds, please contact me directly at grounds@foxpoint.org.
Architecture Report

This month I am sharing a few important reminders on driveway/pool lot etiquette as well as information on Barrington’s parkway tree planting program.
First, as per our Good Neighbor Guidelines, the RVs or other oversized vehicles must be stored offsite and may only be on a driveway for up to one week. If you are concerned about extended storage of a trailer or camper on a driveway, we ask that you first please discuss it directly with your neighbor who is storing the vehicle – usually this goes a long way! This grace period is unique to Fox Point as the Village of Barrington stipulates a maximum of 2 day storage on driveways. After the week grace period and speaking with the homeowner, further inquiries or complaints should be directed to the Village Police Department. Under no circumstances should trailers or RVs be parked in the pool lot.
Further, the Village is starting its free Parkway Tree Planting program for this year. Many residents will recall the vast amount of trees our neighborhood lost due to the Emerald Ash Borer about 10-15 years ago. Our remaining mature trees will not last forever so it is important for residents to plant new trees whenever feasible. The Barrington Public Works Department is starting to put together a list of locations for planting trees on Village parkways and rights of way. Please call Barrington Public Works at 847-381-7903 if you would like a free tree planted. You will then receive a list of available trees to choose from that are suitable for the planting area adjacent to your home.
Safety & Welfare
By Greg Salter | Email
We are continuing to finalize plans for the new playground, and are working to efficiently maximize the budget to improve our playground area. Given the lead time required for the playground equipment, we expect that installation will occur this fall.
As the new Safety & Welfare chair, I also wanted to take this opportunity to remind all homeowners that the lampposts in our front yards are required to be lit per the Fox Point Bylaws. If you are in need of a vendor to assist in lamp repair or the conversion of a gas lamp to an electric lamp, please reach out to me and I can provide contact information.
Lake Report
By Steven Kipferl | Email
Hello neighbors!
As the weather warms, we look forward to an exciting year on the lake. The lake is the healthiest now that it has been in years and the water clarity is amazing. We have accomplished this with the help of county, village, and private funding totaling nearly $20,000 last year alone. We look forward to partnering with these agencies on future projects funded with the help of future grant funding.
The spring wildlife on the lake is coming to life, both with the warmer weather and clean water. Come down to the lake and see for yourself! Geese are moving in and permitted goose control will occur again this year. The early ice-out opened the fishing season early this year and fishing has been heating up. Over the last several years we have stocked bass, crappie, bluegill, northern Pike, catfish, and perch – all species that are still doing well in the lake and being caught! Drop in a line! We will continue to focus on improving the water quality through an increase in natural submerged vegetation, as well as continued ongoing phoslock maintenance. We have many projects coming up that are focused on water quality improvement and are always looking for volunteers to lead special projects or take the lead on new ideas.
Please be conscientious as spring approaches about lawn, clippings, and leaf-blowing debris. Please keep this material away from the lake when possible. When fertilizing, consider environmentally friendly fertilizers to minimize any chemical runoff. Please consider a natural shoreline if you live on the lake, planting native vegetation along the shore, an excellent filtration mechanism for runoff water, and a habitat for our animal friends.
Also, please remember that as you put your boats back in the water, inspect them before doing so. Make sure your plugs are in the bottom of your boat and any damage is repaired before use.
