Happy Summer to all!! It has been a very unique start to 2020 and I hope everyone finds themselves safe and healthy.
“THE POOL IS OPEN” is something I was not sure I would be able to say this year. With rapidly changing regulations by the State and Illinois Department of Public Health, we were able to finally open the pool in record time. Many thanks to Criss and Valerie Chang as well as Seth for all their efforts in getting the pool up and running in a very quick manner. A special thanks to Tiffany Seely Brown and Geoff Ommen for finalizing the pool house. The pool house project came in on time and within budget and turned out perfect! The fact that we have a brand new pool house is surely making it easier to manage the cleaning and disinfecting of the washrooms within that facility.
We continue to manage the software that is helping to create the schedules for pool usage each day so we reach that perfect balance. In the spirit of being a “Good Neighbor,” I ask that everyone do their part in managing their own schedules as it relates to the pool. If you are not going to use your time slot, please try to cancel your reservation the day before your scheduled shift. We have a waiting list currently for every shift and are finding that we have quite a few folks not canceling or simply not showing up for their shifts. When you cancel your reservation the system automatically sends out emails to everyone on the waiting list offering them the spot. I would also tell you that there has been plenty of space in almost every shift for walk-ins especially for folks that want to swim laps. I saw 2 people sharing a swim lane the other day which I thought was a pretty cool thing to see. Two folks in the neighborhood moved from being “good Neighbors” to “Great Neighbors.” That’s the Fox Point that we all want to live & raise our families.
I also want to thank the entire board as we all navigate through some pretty tough times while still trying to manage all of the necessary functions of the Association. We have an exceptional team of some very solid neighbors!
If you have not signed up for Nextdoor or befriended our Fox Point Facebook page, I recommend that you do so. We are actively using Nextdoor as our way of communicating with neighbors on a timely basis. I ask one favor in that each of us try to post or respond in a positive manner instead of filling the text with very negative comments. Don’t post on Nextdoor what you would not say to someone face to face. Social media has many great attributes, but it also has some downsides. My challenge to everyone is to post POSITIVE on Nextdoor. Find someone that did something nice for you or someone that went above and beyond and post a quick note. If you do something that is unique and you think others might enjoy it, post that quick story. It will always be there to sell things, make recommendations, or to inform us of the location of the next coyote but let’s try to use it in a more positive manner as we all try to make sense of our new reality.
If you need anything from any of the Board, our contact information is always listed on the website. As many of you may know, I am also a Village of Barrington Trustee. If you need anything related to the Village of Barrington, please feel free to connect with me as well. You can use my personal contact information that is available on the Fox Point website or my Village contact data which is available on the Village of Barrington website.

The 2020-2021 Fox Point Directories are here! In lieu of distribution at the pool, the orange-colored directories were hand-delivered (dropped in a clear plastic sleeve) on every resident’s driveway.
If you did not receive yours please let me know.

Architecture
By Bruce Kukowski | Email
I just wanted to remind any homeowners who are planning to do any new exterior construction, exterior home improvements or remodeling to please take a look at the Architecture & Design page on the Fox Point website. https://foxpointorg.wpengine.com/architecture-design-guidelines/
You can determine if you need to submit an architecture application to the Fox Point HOA board before starting any work. The HOA board reviews and votes on architecture applications during our monthly HOA board meeting which is the third Monday of each month.
If you have questions about whether your exterior construction or exterior remodeling project needs to be submitted to the HOA board or have questions on the application process, please call me at 847-420-8584 or email me btkukow@gmail.com

Hope everyone is safe and staying healthy and enjoying your summer!
There is nothing substantial to report on the monument walls from last month. As previously stated, the project is due to get going soon. Last month, we were still waiting on the village to get approval. This has been granted. In addition, there was some work also being done by the village in front of our entrance ways that we wanted to clear so that the vendor would have full access to the site. By the end of this month, hopefully, everyone will able to view our progress.
I’m also hoping to enhance the area over by the tennis courts where the bleachers sit. Even though it may be a temporary solution, the hope is to spruce up the space a bit. Currently, the bleachers sit on a dead patch of grass. Our landscaping crew has looked at the space and will relay their ideas. My hope is to have that small project completed as well by the end of this month.
Enjoy the nice weather!

Lake Louise Algae Bloom.
Over the last couple of weeks, we have seen the blue green algae bloom, called Cyanobacteria, make a presence in the creek coming from the south side of our neighborhood and into Lake Louise. A member of the Lake County government who is responsible for our waterways came out and tested Lake Louise twice during this time period and has recommended us to not swim, minimize contact with lake water, and do not let pets play or drink from the water. The second test showed a much smaller concentration, so it is dissipating as we speak.
When you see this type of algae present please refrain from swimming in the water and keep pets from drinking or swimming. Skin irritation or rash is the most commonly reported health effect from this form of algae exposure, Cyantoxin. Other symptoms range from diarrhea, cramps, vomiting, fainting, numbness, dizziness and tingling. The most severe reactions occur when large amounts of water are swallowed.
The best way to stay safe is to stay out of the affected water and keep children and pets away. If you are in contact with affected water, wash off thoroughly with soap and clean source of water. As a reminder, most algae blooms carry no or very limited concerns.
Officials from Lake County will take weekly testes until the toxin has dissipated. As we have done in the past, we will keep you posted through Nextdoor.

Good News – At the June meeting the Fox Point Board agreed that reopening the pool, based on state guidelines for COVID 19 with safety in mind, was a priority for the neighborhood.
In mid-June, the IDPH published guidelines for swimming facilities under Phase 3 of the Restore Illinois plan and those guidelines were used to produce a plan to re-open the pool for lap swim and swim lessons that were announced via NextDoor.
Subsequently, the state planned to move to Phase 4 at the end of June – and released IDPH Guidelines on June 26th — and thus the board responded with speed and pivoted the pool re-open plan to Phase 4 Guidelines and opened the pool on Monday, June 29th.
Note that there are a number of changes, stemming from the pandemic, such as digital reservation sign-ups using the Omnify Go app and website, a COVID-19 waiver adopted by the Board, and added safety measures.
UPDATE – Pool Policy Changes and FAQ.
As I finalize this report, we are days into the Fox Point Pool opening and the sounds of summer can be heard again on Coldspring. The Pool staff has done an amazing job of implementing the new COVID procedures and pool attendees have been patient and understanding as well.
We are receiving lots of feedback and questions regarding the pool signup and general use. With this input, we have identified areas to improve the pool experience for all. Attached on this post, you will find the updated Policies and Procedures with changes highlighted in yellow, along with an informational FAQ in response to the commonly asked questions over the past few days. An email with this same information will be distributed to all profiles in the Omnify system later today.
NOTE: The new and expanded schedule begins on Monday, July 13.
Reservations will be taken 1 week prior to the session date and time. Bookings for 7/13 will be open on 7/6, bookings for 7/14 will open on 7/7, and so forth, as this is a rolling 1-week process. For more details, see the FAQ #4.
Here are the key updates to the Policies and Procedures for Phase 4:
- Booking limits have been updated from 1 per day to 4 per week
- One daily swim session has been added to the schedule, beginning 7/13
- All swim sessions will be 90 minutes
- New rule added to reduce No-Shows – 3 No-Shows will result in a 1-week suspension
- The diving well will open soon
We appreciate your continued patience and support as we make adjustments to this process.

Currently, all playgrounds remain CLOSED as a directive from the Governor. Thus, the Fox Point Playground remains officially closed, as the FPHA Board continues to follow the guidelines for playgrounds set forth by each Phase.
As we have moved into Phase 4 we continue to closely monitor the new guidelines that are issued and plan to open the playground once we are permitted to do so. There is a possibility that in Phase 4 some restrictions could be lifted before we reach Phase 5. We also explored the idea of having the playground cleaned and sanitized but deemed
the cost to be too high and not practical.
On a separate note: Please be sure to drive no more than 25mph, as walkers continue to enjoy our neighborhood streets!

Hi Neighbors,
As I had previously posted on Next Door, the deadline to sign up for lessons in July was Friday, June 19th. However, given the summer schedule uncertainty, reach out to Dana from First Serve Management if you’re interested in sessions that have openings as she’ll likely be able to accommodate your interest.
The link to the tennis lesson schedule can be found here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/4090d4baba622a6ff2-foxpoint1
