The beautiful Fall colors help to pacify the disappointment of another summer coming to a close. Our attendance to the pool and our summer social outings have been outstanding this summer. Hopefully you worked some of these events into your schedule and took advantage of our Fox Point assets including the pool, tennis courts, and Lake Louise. Thank you to all of the volunteers that make these possible.
The Fox Point Board is working hard on our 2018 Operating and Capital budgets. Some of our potential projects for next year include the tennis courts, the boat racks, and lake treatments. Please contact one of the Board members or attend our October 16th meeting (7:00 pm – Village Church) if you would like to express your thoughts on next year’s budget.
If you would like to make an impact in your community, I strongly encourage you to explore serving on the Fox Point Homeowners Association Board. We will have at four openings for the 2018 term starting in January and will need representatives from both Lake and Cook County. For more information, please contact the Nominating Chair Christine Mickey (ChristineMickey@Gmail.com) or one of our current/previous Board Members.
Let’s work together to ensure that our community continues to be an outstanding place to grow families; to build relationships, and to simply experience the blessings of life. Please contact me if I can be of service to you.
Following is the news release for the Barrington Regional Hurricane Relief effort. Please join us…
Volunteers Needed To Rebuild Hurricane-Devastated Homes
Barrington Regional Effort Plans Trip to Houston November 10-19
BARRINGTON, ILL (OCTOBER 5, 2017) – Volunteers are requested to help those in need to repair and rebuild hurricane-devastated homes in the Houston area on a trip to Harris County, Texas from November 10 – 19th. The need is great. Over 185,000 homes were estimated to be damaged or destroyed, according to the Texas Division of Emergency Management, putting tens of thousands of residents out of their homes.
The Barrington Regional Hurricane Relief team has connected with Annise Parker of BakerRipley, a local partner on the ground in the Houston area (www.bakerripley.org), to identify the areas where the team can make the largest impact. The projects will be located in economically challenged areas where homeowners cannot afford to make the necessary repairs.
Volunteers and charitable donations can be made online through The Build Team at www.BRHRelief.org, or checks can be mailed or hand-delivered to the following address:

Barrington, Illinois, 60010
“An effort like this takes a village of different types of volunteers, not just those who can help with construction,” said John Dawson, owner of Dawson Builders and President of The Build Team (NFP). “We need help with organization and logistics both before and during the effort, as well as cooks, runners and drivers when we are on site.”
The Build Team, a Barrington-based not-for-profit company which helps local homeowners with essential repairs, is just one of the many organizations and businesses in the Barrington area that have come forward to support the effort, both financially and with volunteers. (A complete list is included at the end of this release.)
In addition to volunteers, the Barrington Regional Hurricane Relief effort is also accepting donations. The Foglia Family Foundation has offered to match the first $25,000 donated. All of the donations—100%—will go directly toward rebuilding efforts, with all administrative and logistical costs covered through donations, and with volunteers paying their own way. Only food on site will be covered through the fund.
The Build Team, a 501(c)(3) organization, has agreed to receive, distribute and account for all charitable contributions to fund exclusively the costs of materials, equipment and other expenses necessary to fulfill the Barrington community’s mission to provide meaningful, hands-on support to hurricane victims.
An additional trip is being considered for spring of 2018, likely to coincide with District 220’s Spring Break. Details to follow.
“I am always amazed at the generosity of people in the Barrington area in supporting efforts like these,” said Bob Lee. “This effort is truly a coming together of concerned citizens from the entire Barrington region.”
The Build Team has been helping local homeowners in need with essential repairs to allow them to remain in their homes. John Dawson has experience helping recovery in many areas devastated by hurricanes and flooding, including repair trips to New Orleans, Joplin, Missouri, and Cedar Rapids, Iowa. With the news of damage from hurricane Harvey, John was already planning a trip to the Houston area. It made sense for John to share his knowledge and help coordinate this community effort.
The following organizations have joined the effort to date:
Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital
Barrington – Relay For Life
Barrington 220 Educational Foundation

Thanks to everyone who supported the September social events, which included the End of Season Pool Party and the Annual Fox Point Golf Outing. At the Pool Party, the master of ceremonies, Kris Jankowski, provided hilarious commentary yet again. The Fox Point Golf outing, coordinated by Marc & Dorren Muhs, was the hottest on record at 90+ degrees. Prize winners included Kyle Powal, Jim Hill, Jodi Johnson and Doreen Muhs.
UPCOMING EVENTS:
October 8 – Fall Fest (1 – 3 pm)
Join your neighbors at Citizens Park (Jewel Tea Pavilion) for some fall fun! There will be fall games, face painting, balloon animals and more! Snacks and drinks will be served. The cost is $15 per person. If you are interested in assisting with coordination of the event, please reach out to the event chair Rena Slovik at remschmi@gmail.com. Kids of all ages are welcome (but the activities are geared toward kids under the age of 10). RSVP via SignUpGenius here: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/5080c48a8a92fa4fa7-foxpoint5
November 4 – Progressive Dinner (6 – 11 pm)
Save the date for the annual Fox Point Progressive Dinner! A more formal invitation with additional detail will be sent to all neighbors in the coming weeks. We are looking for host homes for:
– Appetizers – The entire group will be at your home for an hour or so for appetizers
– Small Group Dinners – The group will then break into smaller groups of approximately 3-6 couples for dinner. The total number you would have at your home depends upon how many people you are able/willing to seat at the table in your home
– Dessert – The broader group meets up at this final stop of the evening
All food and wine will be provided by the event co-chairs. You only need to set your table and we bring the rest! Please reach out to Allison Meier at allison.meier@comcast.net if you are willing to host. Hope you can make it for a fun night!
Tennis

After a successful summer of Fox Point tennis lessons we encourage all Fox Point residents to continue to use the tennis courts through the nice weather this fall.
The Fox Point and Biltmore Tennis Open on September 8th was a huge success! The tennis players had a great time on the courts and afterwards everyone gathered for a Mexican themed buffet dinner at Biltmore. Special thanks to Claire Hamilton for planning this event with Biltmore to make it a special night for everyone!
Also, please remember and remind your children that the tennis courts are only for tennis related activities. There is NO biking, rollerblading, skateboarding, etc. allowed on the tennis courts. Also, please refrain from using any glass products on the tennis courts. If you would like to volunteer to be on the Fox Point Tennis Committee, please contact Christine Mickey.
