A Time for Thanksgiving!!!
As this time of year comes around, many of us begin preparations for the upcoming holidays. Preparations may include everything from our family chefs beginning their planning of the Thanksgiving feast to others making travel arrangements to visit relatives and friends.
During this busy time, I encourage each of you to take a moment to truly appreciate the blessings in your life. Look past the challenges that may be currently present in your life and focus on the blessings around you. Personally, I do not need to look far as I experience all of the benefits of being a part of our Fox Point Community.
Thank you to all of our residents that contribute to Fox Point being a “safe” place to live. Many of you may have noticed a temporary “speed awareness” sign around our streets within our neighborhood. Previously our Safety & Welfare Chair Bob Ben and I met with Barrington Chief of Police David Dorn and Assistant Chief of Police John Burke to discuss safety within Fox Point. One of the outcomes of this meeting was the use of speed awareness signs to curtail potential speeding.
Although we will need to continue our awareness of safety concerns like speeding, I greatly appreciate all that are giving additional attention to keeping our community safe. Please join me in extending a big THANK YOU to the Barrington Police for protecting and serving Fox Point and the Barrington area.
Let’s work together to ensure that our community continues to be an outstanding place to grow families; to build relationships, and to simply experience the blessings of life. Please contact me if I can be of service to you.
Happy Thanksgiving!
Common Grounds
By Mike Moran | Email
It is a fairly quiet time of year for the Common Grounds Committee as we wrap up another great year in Fox Point.
It is once again time to bring up that four letter word that everyone hates to hear….snow…. We have again contracted with Groh Plowing to manage the snow removal for Fox Point. They have done a great job in the past 3-4 years and have again agreed to keep their prices unchanged. For all newer folks to Fox Point, we plow the path to the Lines School campus that is accessed off of Oak Ridge Circle as well as the sidewalks that run along both the north and south sides of Lake Cook Road. In addition we have them plow the boat dock driveway from January to February as necessary. We apply salt as needed and I usually try to monitor both of these areas. If you ever see something that needs addressing, please call or email me (at least until my term is up in January) and I will get the contractor back out to address. They are very responsive and will come back out if necessary.
I have been bugging the Village of Barrington to replace the lost tree’s that were cut down along the Northern end of the pool/tennis court area along the street. They recently removed one additional tree for us and I hope we are on the list for 2-3 replacement tree’s next spring. They claim we should be on the list for next year as he must be annoyed by my monthly emails to him requesting the replacement plantings.
We are still working on upgrading the two light poles that adorn the entrance to each side of the boat dock driveway. Pending an early freeze, these should be upgraded this month. They should be a nice addition to this area!!
We also did some late in the season updates to the northern entrance island on Valley Road as I was not happy with the results from our initial replacement program. Once the plants take root and start to grow next spring and summer, we should start to see a very different island.
In addition we have again planted some bulbs at the front entrances, boat complex, and pool house entrance to welcome in the spring season of 2018!!
Social
By Stephanie Paine | Email
In my tenure as the Social Chair, this is the shortest monthly update I’ve had to write! The fall tends to be a slower on the social front as everyone transitions back to school and fall sports.
October was a beautiful month around Fox Point. Young families attended the Fox Point Fall Fest held at Citizens Park on October 8. A big thanks to Rena and Tyler Slovick for coordinating the event! My family enjoyed the face painting, balloon art, cookie decorating, s’mores and Pinterest-worthy desserts crafted by Rena.
By the time this newsletter goes to print, the Progressive Dinner will likely have occurred (November 4). This is one of our favorite events of the year, and it couldn’t happen without the efforts of the committee members – Allison Meier, Melinda McElroy, Melissa Mickey and Nikki DiMucci. Thank you ladies for taking this on! I am sure it will be a blast.
Upcoming Event – Santa Visits (December 17 and 24)
Jennifer Livingston will be coordinating neighborhood Santa Visits in December. This is a fun neighborhood tradition and the kids love it! The cost is $8 per family (up to 3 kids included in that price, and an additional cost of $2 per extra kid). The cost covers a small gift for the children and maintaining/cleaning Santa suits. Space is limited and this event always fills up quickly! There are 12 time slots available for each date, and a potential to add a 3rd night based on availability.
